American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider

The Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers Classroom Course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED, and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner.

Designed for: Healthcare Providers (Nurses and Nursing Students; Physicians; Medical/Dental Assistants; Physical and Occupational Therapists)
Certification: 2 Years
Class Length: 3 Hours

American Heart Association HeartSaver CPR & AED (Infant/Child/Adult)

The HeartSaver CPR/AED course is designed for the lay responder. This class teaches the skills necessary to overcome reluctance to act in emergency situations and to recognize and care for life-threatening respiratory or cardiac emergencies. Through “hands-on” training and video demonstrations, students will learn the standard protocols for administering proper CPR techniques and understand when and how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED).

American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR/AED/First Aid for adult/child/infant

Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED is a classroom, video-based, instructor-led course that teaches students critical skills needed to respond to and manage a first aid, choking or sudden cardiac arrest emergency in the first few minutes until emergency medical services (EMS) arrives. Students learn skills such as how to treat bleeding, sprains, broken bones, shock and other first aid emergencies. This course also teaches adult CPR and AED use.

American Heart Association Heartsaver Bloodborne Pathogens

Heartsaver Bloodborne Pathogens Course is a classroom course that teaches employees how to protect themselves and others from being exposed to blood or blood-containing materials. This course is designed to meet Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements for bloodborne pathogens training when paired with site-specific instruction.

AHA’s course uses the PACT acronym (Protect, Act, Clean, Tell) and slogan, “Make a PACT, Know How to Act,” to help students learn and easily recall bloodborne pathogens training.

Students learn how to:

  • Protect themselves from exposure to bloodborne pathogens
  • Act when exposed to blood or blood-containing materials in the workplace
  • Clean themselves and the area when exposed to blood or blood-containing materials in the workplace
  • Tell or report any exposure to blood or blood-containing materials in the workplace

Designed for: This course is designed for anyone with a reasonable chance of coming into contact with bloodborne pathogens such as: Correctional Officers, Childcare workers, Security guards, Maintenance workers, School personnel, Hotel housekeepers, Health and fitness club staff, Tattoo artists

American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider Skills Check

The BLS HCP skills check will assess single and 2-rescuer CPR skills with adult and infant CPR. The class will be shown a 2-minute video model demonstration of CPR and be allowed time to practice the skills. The assessment will follow the practice time. Successful performance of the BLS skills will warrant issuance of an AHA 2-year certification card. In exchange, the completion certificate from Part 1 must be provided. Those without the certificate will not be permitted into the class.

Designed for: Those in the healthcare field such as nurses, doctors, medical technicians, nursing school students, etc. Those seeking renewal certification have higher success with this course option.

Class Format: Classroom-based (instructor and video, with skills check conducted)

American Heart Association ACLS-Advanced Cardiac Life Support

The American Heart Association’s ACLS Course builds on the foundation of lifesaving BLS for Healthcare Providers skills, emphasizing the importance of continuous, high-quality CPR. This advanced, instructor-led classroom course highlights the importance of team dynamics and communication, systems of care and immediate post-cardiac-arrest care. The ACLS course also covers airway management and related pharmacology.

In the ACLS Course, skills are taught in large, group sessions and small, group learning and testing stations where case-based scenarios are presented. Successful course completion includes demonstrating skills competency in all learning stations and passing the CPR and AED skills test, bag-mask ventilation skills test, a Megacode test and a written test. Upon successful completion, students receive an ACLS Provider card, valid for two years.

Course Covers:

  • Key changes in advanced cardiovascular life support, reflecting the current American Heart Association Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular Care
  • Basic life support skills, including effective chest compressions, use of a bag-mask device and use of an AED
  • Recognition and early management of respiratory and cardiac arrest
  • Recognition and early management of peri-arrest conditions such as symptomatic bradycardia
  • Airway management
  • Related pharmacology
  • Management of acute coronary syndromes (ACS) and stroke
  • Effective communication as a member and leader of a resuscitation team
  • Designed for: ACLS is designed for healthcare professionals who either direct or participate in the management of cardiopulmonary arrest and other cardiovascular emergencies. This includes personnel in emergency response, emergency medicine, intensive care and critical care units.

Certification: 2 year certification

Class Length: 5 Hours

Heartsaver First Aid Only

We offer the First-Aid Certification Course in a traditional classroom setting, video-based, with one of our Certified Instructors to perform the necessary Skills-Check. Completing this Skills-Check is the final step in receiving the First-Aid Certification Card.

Designed for: Employees, Parents, Teachers, Coaches and other Childcare Providers

Certification: 2 Years

Class Length: 1 Hour

American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider CHALLENGE

New from the AHA for 2013, the CHALLENGE is for renewal applicants who possess a current CPR certification card. Those with expired certification cards are NOT eligible. A valid card must be presented at time of appointment.

To renew certification through the CHALLENGE, all steps of the AHA BLS sequence with adult and infant CPR must be performed 100% correctly. The Challenge ends at the first mistake made. The written test must have a passing score missing no more than four questions. Failed Challenges cannot reattempt or sign up again at a later date to reattempt, but rather be referred to an AHA traditional class offered. There are no refunds for failed performances or discounts for classes.
