Bobby Bones Gets CPR Certified Before Baby Arrives

Preparing for a new baby comes with a long list of responsibilities — assembling cribs, installing car seats, and baby-proofing the house. But one of the most important things parents can do to prepare for emergencies is learning lifesaving skills like CPR.

Recently, I had the privilege of providing CPR and AED training for radio host Bobby Bones and his wife Caitlin as they prepare to welcome their first child. Like many soon-to-be parents, they wanted to feel confident that they could respond quickly if an emergency ever happened.

Bobby later shared his experience publicly, talking about what he learned and why he believes CPR training is so important.

Bobby Bones Shares His CPR Training Experience

After completing the training, Bobby talked about the experience on his platform and shared how learning CPR helped him understand what really saves lives in an emergency.

He also shared a video about the training on Instagram discussing the importance of learning CPR and choking rescue techniques before becoming a parent.

During the training, we focused on several critical lifesaving skills including:

  • Adult CPR
  • Infant CPR
  • Responding to choking emergencies
  • How and when to use an AED (Automated External Defibrillator)

One of the biggest takeaways was how important strong, consistent chest compressions and quick action are during a cardiac emergency.

Why CPR Training Is Especially Important for Parents

Bobby Bones and Caitlin Parker

Most cardiac emergencies happen at home, not in hospitals. For infants and young children, choking is one of the most common emergencies caregivers may face.

Knowing how to respond in the first few minutes before emergency responders arrive can make the difference between life and death.

According to the American Heart Association, bystander CPR can double or even triple a person’s chance of survival after sudden cardiac arrest.

That’s why CPR training isn’t just important for healthcare providers — it’s essential for:

  • Parents
  • Grandparents
  • Babysitters
  • Teachers
  • Coaches
  • Anyone caring for children

Learning CPR provides the confidence and skills needed to act quickly when seconds matter most.

Why Learning CPR Can Save a Life

One thing I always remind students during CPR training is that emergencies don’t wait for professionals to arrive.

The first responder is usually a family member, friend, or bystander who happens to be nearby.

When someone collapses from sudden cardiac arrest, immediate CPR and early defibrillation with an AED are the two most important actions that can save a life.

That’s why more families are choosing to get CPR certified before welcoming a new baby.
